Even though I am not the President of the United States, the creator of a new painting technique, or a heroic missionary looking for new places to evangelize, I do believe that my life so far has been meaningful and exciting. My name is Angel Valdez; I was born in Cd. Juarez. I live in a family of six, and I am the third one among my brothers and sister.
My Father and Mother love us and have fought for us in a brave way to provide us with education and good values. I studied my Elementary, Middle and High School in Ciudad Juarez. I always knew that I wanted to be an artist. I have always felt attracted by color and creativity. I love drawing, painting and sculpture. I got an Associate Degree on Liberal Arts and a Bachelor Degree on Fine Arts and Art Education.
My mom taught me to pray and to love God. I love God, and I love people. Jesus called us not servants but friends, it means that friendship is important and it is love. Friends are with us on this process of life, in our history, and walking with us. I can understand the greatness of its meaning. Friendship is sacred because it comes from God, and it needs to be treasured and built up for many years with much care. “A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words”. At this moment, there are a lot of names coming into my head. Friends from all my lifespan and those names make me smile and feel happy. God is Trinity, God is love, God is truth, God is righteous, God is Justice, and God is my Father. In few words, God is everything.
In Art and Spirituality, I love two topics, the mystery of God’s incarnation and his Cross and Resurrection. I have had many examples to follow inside of the Church. Saints that are already in Heaven and Saints that are living with us. I have seen the face of Christ in their eyes. They have been Priests, Missionaries, Brothers and Sisters working together to keep building up the Kingdom of Heaven. I do not want to say names because I do not want to forget someone. Some of them have been courageous, others merciful, some real fighters for justice, and it could be a long list. They have taught me that to be Church is to be the body of Christ and everyone has to do what we have to do to keep this body full of Life, and healthy. Pope Francis has insisted on this, we are the people of God. Loving each other is the only way to bring more souls to our Lord Jesus Christ.
The way I nourish my life of Faith is with a life of austerity, daily Mass, praying, reading and reflection of the Bible, confession, helping and loving. . My prayer life is not too intensive as I would like, but I try to do my best. I go to Daily mass and I try to pray the Rosary every day. I have a long way to walk on spirituality.
I spend my free time reading, drawing, watching movies, painting, and if I am in a community, sharing my time and service there. My eye-opening life experience has been watching the cross of Jesus Christ on the shoulders of my brothers and sisters; they are a lot of good people working to build a better world, that believe in Jesus Christ and I want to be part of this team. Life is full of decisions and every decision that we take is going to lead our lives in a direction. My biggest decision has been to follow his voice. I can see how he has been in my life all the time despite of I have been distracted or reckless to follow him. To conclude, I do not want to become a Priest; I want to give an answer as Holy Mary did. She did not say yes because she wanted to be the Mother of God… she wanted to be the slave of God. Seriously, I do not know how God can see a priest on me, but I only want to say yes. Thank you.
